India vs Australia Paris Olympics 2024: The Indian hockey team has created history in the Paris Olympics 2024. In its last match of Group B, Team India defeated Australia 3-2. This is the first time since 1972 that India has defeated Australia in the hockey competition of the Summer Olympics. Let us tell you that India has already confirmed its place in the quarter-finals and now by defeating Australia, it has finished second in Group B after Belgium.
India last defeated Australia in hockey competition in Summer Olympics in 1972. Now finally Team India has registered a historic victory by 3-2, ending the 52-year drought. India has achieved this feat under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Singh. Team India dominated the match in the first quarter itself. In the 12th minute, striker Abhishek gave India a 1-0 lead and just a minute later Harmanpreet showed strength by converting a penalty corner into a goal. Harmanpreet scored India’s third goal on a penalty stroke and finally the match ended 3-2.
Who will they face in the quarterfinals?
India finished second in Group B and will now face the third-placed team in Group A in the quarterfinals. Although the third spot has not been decided yet, it is certain that Team India will have to overcome the challenge of either Great Britain or Germany in the quarterfinals. Let us tell you that India is the bronze medal winner of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and looking at the performance so far, it seems as if this time Team India is going to change the color of its medal. So far, only Belgium has been able to defeat India in the Olympics 2024.
